So, one of the blogs I follow<<link is participating in a Travel Challenge where you get nominated “to post one favourite [sic] travel picture a day for ten days without explanation, then to nominate someone else to participate.”
Andrew was kind enough to ask if I wanted to be nominated to which I responded that I’m uncomfortable nominating others and hence it wouldn’t conform to the spirit of the challenge . . . but I liked the idea and decided on a different spin.
This will be a series of photos where readers are invited to guess the location. Each post will feature only one photo, but at least two (and occasionally more) versions of that photo.
All of the photos will be collected in THIS<<link SmugMug Gallery. Each new post will identify the previous post’s photo.
The previous post<<link was not an auspicious effort for this series because I messed-up the poll. I had difficulty because of my unfamiliarity with the block editor sequence for adding polls. I had to redo the poll three times and in my last effort I left out the correct answer which was “Washington, USA”. Specifically, the North Head Lighthouse<<link in the Olympic Peninsula (click LINK for map).
Here we go with the next offering. It’s another easily found location, especially using Google, but take a shot at the poll below before you employ technology.
That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

If you’re new to this blog, it might be a good idea to read the FAQ page. If you’re considering subscribing to this blog, it’s definitively a good idea to read both the About page and the FAQ page.
I had to use some deductive reasoning by first eliminating places that I’m pretty sure you have not visited, like Venezuela. I don’t think you’re the NY type, so those are out. Washington D.C.? Nah. So I chose Mijer’s Gardens, you being a ex-Michigander.

All will be revealed tomorrow, but thanks for playing.

Oh, what the heck . . . here’s a hint. The place is infested with vermin, crooks, and elected officials . . . but I repeat myself.

Another deduction from your reply would suggest the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. A quick search, you say? Not as quick from our side as you think.

Try this: go to Google, Bing, or any of the other search engines, and type “sphere sculpture” and look at the images. You’ll see a number of them of this same sphere from around the globe. Once you know the name, a quick trip to Wikipedia gives you all the locations, but even without it, there’s only one on a pedestal like in the photo.

We both posted at 9:49, with me having researched via the blue diamond and writing my answer before seeing your reply which posted right after mine once I returned to my emails. Ahhh, the beauty of technology to bring people together, yet being miles apart.

. . . and also get them at each other’s throats even when near each other.
It’s usually easy finding photos, but going forward, I’ll try and mix it up a bit to where a simple search won’t return anything useful . . . but, I’ll give a hint.

OK, I found it by looking for the blue triangle with red “flags” sculpture . . . at the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, and these pieces from the work of Lester Collins.

No idea. I have discounted Venezuela. I have a gut instinct for Mejir’s Gardens Michigan but it is just a guess.

Then it must be Washington D.C.

It could have been any seat of government, but yes, this piece is in Washington, D. C.

Afraid I’d have to go with Mijer’s also… the trees, including what seems like a pine tree… and other clues, all seem to be relitively northern – and certainly not urban. M 🙂

It is, and the artist is still alive (I posted the information in the next post in the series).
Versions of that sculpture are all over the world . . .
