Maps used to be great. I find modern maps are less useful than the ones I used to get. You know, the ones with sea monsters and ships falling off the edge of the earth.

I gave a very zoomed-in look to this amazing 1539 Scandinavian map. It shows lots of sea monsters, some of which are attacking ships. There are lots of reindeers (in the Lappia/Lapland region) plus some pulling sleds on ice, and soldiers, cannons, and kings/rulers on thrones. There’s a cloud with a face on it blowing the wind and a lovely depiction of the ice/glaciers near Iceland. This is really great fun to look at!
