Tiny Thoughts 002 — Vaccines and Freedom

Using the concept of “freedom” when discussing vaccines is an example of people cheapening ideals that should drive nations to improve the human condition, and using them instead as weapons in petty squabbles to serve the ‘higher cause’ of partisanship.

No one can explain how vaccination requirements impinge on their freedom any more than the requirement of a driver license and insurance before you take to the road.

People attack rules addressing personal safety, social order and social safety not out of honest concern, but for political advantage driven by ignorance stoked by ‘influencers’ who know better but feed the unthinking mobs for personal, political, and monetary gains.

Throughout history, humans were both wary of anyone who might be sick and dreaded getting sick themselves . . . but not now.

Apparently, it’s now your ‘right’ to be sick and infect others. Some even claim we’ll be better and stronger because of it, and argue provisions aimed at safeguarding both your health and the health of others threaten freedom. Just how stupid are these people?

I deliberately use the word ‘stupid’ because it takes a stupid person to set aside common sense, and especially to set aside hard-won common sense. The world may have a nebulous picture of what happened during the Black Death outbreak, but we have pictures, letters, articles, and journals of what happened during the Spanish Flu outbreak in the early part of the 20th century.

Only stupid people resist learning, and only monumentally stupid people ignore what we have learned in the past, often at substantial cost, and only hopelessly stupid people will put themselves and loved ones in danger because of political ideology.

  1. If you had a public school education in the US in the last 50 years, you probably received the Dip/Tet, Polio, MMR, and more as a requirement. Polio is virtually eradicated in the US due to mandatory vaccines in most states. The new Covid 19 vaccines will NOT make you magnetic and do not contain tracking chips from Bill Gates. Also, you won’t glow in the dark and the world is not flat. We are living in the golden age of stupidity.
I’d also like to point out that I have a bridge for sale if anyone is interested.

    1. And, we’ve had MMR vaccines since the 90s (longer than the mythical 10 years waiting period some of the people claim).

This is where we now find ourselves:

Sadly, others are already fleecing these these people; not sure how many buyers you’re gonna get.

  2. In the recent weeks, I’ve heard more people describe others as ‘stupid’ than I’ve ever heard before . . . must be a pandemic going around!

Anyway, I am a firm believer that people are not stupid, but rather think stupid thoughts and then say and do stupid things.

  3. DISPERSER WARNING: the link mentioned below leads you to a non-science-based rant by a “health researcher” pushing alternative medicine and conspiracies theories. I advise not wasting your time.

    Re the “human condition”…

The TRUE “human condition” is about 2 pink elephants in the room and has never been on clearer display than with the deliberate global Covid Scam atrocity — study (NOT briefly scan) “The 2 Married Pink Elephants In The Historical Room –The Holocaustal Covid-19 Coronavirus Madness: A Sociological Perspective & Historical Assessment Of The Covid “Phenomenon”” at w w w d o t  CovidTruthBeKnown  d o t c o m

    1. It’s interesting to me when people claim suppression of ideas and information even as they live in a country that does nothing to suppress their ideas.

Ignorance, or, as I like to call it, stupidity, is (sadly) also not suppressed.

For the record, there are lots of ‘studies’ showing various degrees of small benefits of Vitamin C . . . but not double-blind studies. At least, none that I am aware of. There is some minimal benefit to taking vitamin C when sick (no one is disputing it), but it pales in comparison to actual medicine.

Side note: I too can provide anecdotal evidence: when traveling in Germany in 1995, I contracted some flu and was sicker than I’d been before and since. I lost many nights’ sleep, my eyes were caked with secretion, my nose raw from constant blowing it, and my throat to the point I could barely talk. Guess what? Their pharmacies don’t sell “medicine” like Nyquil, antihistamines, and any cold symptoms medicine we’re used to here in the States, unless you have a prescription. Instead, I got Ricola and other herbal stuff. I can tell you that it did absolutely nothing (because it’s not medicine). It wasn’t until I got back to Frankfort’s airport (we cut our trip short) that I was able to see a doctor and was prescribed “medicine”. I also found a “real” pharmacy within the airport and bought Nyquil and Dayquil and was finally able to suppress the worse symptoms, and I got a few nights of sleep.

Anyway, we can go back 40 years (that’s as far back as I remember hearing about the miracles of high doses of vitamin C), so the “benefits” of vitamin C (and other supplements) are hardly being suppressed. Heck, an internet search about Vitamin C will get you pages and pages of people touting it as a miracle cure for cancer, covid, colds, the flu. I’m sure you’d be hard-pressed to find something vitamin C doesn’t cure.

And all of it, backed up by shoddy “science”. All them studies the guy references? Run by “Orthomolecular Medicine” proponents.

They accuse “Big Pharma” of bias and wanting to make money, but if you want to see bias, read what they say . . . right begore urging you to buy their stuff.

The thing is, they can’t back up their claims with science (that’s why that link you mention is heavy with quotes by philosophers and scant on reproducible and rigorous data).

For instance, one cited study of 17 people (!) showed a ‘statistically significant’ benefit of 8%. Vitamin C helped the (self-reported) symptoms of 1.36 people. Note that there are no specifics of what they measured. I assume they had a control group, but there’s no mention of the make-up or general health of the people in the study.

“Normal” people look at that data and decide taking actual medicine is much better.

People who have little to no training in thinking see that as some sort of secret that only they are privy to. I presume it makes them feel important.

The link you mentioned is full of quotes by philosophers, lots of accusations of suppression, but has very little actionable information.

Meaning, the “health researcher” isn’t providing any data whatsoever. Nor is he prescribing dosages, frequency, or anything practically useful. He does, however, like to blow his own horn (he writes a lot, you see, in orthomolecular journals).

Also, very quickly, he goes from trying to inform to conspiracy theory stuff.

Now, I bothered to reply because there’s still the chance you and others might be hit by a spark of reason and find purchase on the shores of rationality, thus leaving the turbulent and dangerous waters of woo medicine behind.

At the very least, I hope you and others will opt to supplement your supplements with real medicine because an 8% dubious improvement based on 17 people is not comparable to statistics based on literally millions of people.

The US recently crossed 800,000 COVID fatalities. Of the latest victims, the majority refused to listen to the “propaganda” of science.

“Orthomolecular Medicine” is a form of “alternative medicine”. As many have pointed out, it’s called “alternative medicine” because if it worked, it would be called “medicine”.

Don’t be a statistic. And don’t be in the group I mention in the last paragraph of my post.

  4. If they pretend to parade themselves as freedom fighters, refraining from vaccination as a matter of “principle” or as an act of rebellion against an autocratic overreach from a dictatorial government, they do a disservice not only to their community, family, friends and colleagues; but a disservice also to true freedom fighters who fought (and died) for human ideals far loftier than the right to visit their local hairdresser.

What they also gloss over is that the so called “dictatorship” was actually responding to the clamour of the other 90% of the population to be vaccinated.

In reality they are fighting for the right to die a horrible death from covid.

Here in Oz, 🙃, now that we’ve reached a high vaccination rate, the Health Department has informed us that based on recent cases the small minority of unvaccinated people (outnumbered by more than 9:1) are 24 times more likely to be admitted to hospital with covid19.

How unbelievably puerile is it to maintain their confused bravado in the face of such brutal statistics? 😬

Then there are people who promote vitamins or other unproven products as a magical cure. They know best of course. They even know better than the entire medical profession….
