Final “Y” stories voting reminder . . . and faces

The “Y” stories voting block will end tomorrow at noon. I presume many people waited for their free extra hour — we set our clocks back this AM — to indulge in these stories. Well, it’s here; a whole hour to read these stories and vote for your favorite.

Edited to Add: For them who prefer doing everything at the last minute, we actually set our clocks forward this AM, so now’s the time to get a move on.

And, as usual, if you’re a regular reader of our stories and someone who votes, thank you for participating in this long experiment (we’re nearly done). Links to the stories and the poll for voting for “Alphabet Challenge Y-Stories” are HERE(link). Votes will be accepted until  Noon (Central Time) on Monday, March 15th, 2021.

We begin with . . . pareidolia<<link.

I’m always on the lookout for faces I might encounter throughout the day . . . usually, in our kitchen.

I can tell you many a time when I’m preparing some food and I stop to snap a photo. Usually, it’s bread; more specifically, bagels.

So, for them who didn’t click on the link, pareidolia is the natural propensity of humans to “see faces”. The best example I can give you is of a wall plug . . . two vertical lines and a hole that will remind you of someone looking surprised. Unless, of course, the plug is installed upsidedown. Here’s an example from my Project 13 effort<<link.

That one has horizontal lines . . . they make it look tired or sleepy . . .

Bagels often offer up expressions (hint: toasting them accentuates the features) . . .

If you push your imagination a bit, that looks like the cave troll from The Fellowship of the Ring . . . right after Legolas puts an arrow through the roof of its mouth.

. . . poor troll . . .

Of course, it’s not just bagels . . .

It looks friendly enough, but you can’t trust potatoes . . . nor tomatoes.

Look at them beady eyes . . . and what about them teeth, eh? They look like they could rip you apart.

But, Bagels still comprise the majority of my efforts . . .

Blueberry muffins are also a good source of faces . . .

It’s surprising to me how often blueberry muffins end up looking like Kim Jong-un, the dicktator of North Korea.

. . . or, Chicken Little . . . say! Do you suppose they are one and the same?

If you look hard enough, you can find faces everywhere . . . here’s a sour face . . .

This guy isn’t all that happy, either . . . maybe he’s just constipated and really straining.

Sometimes, I indulge in a little artistic flair, tuning this . . .

. . . into this . . .

And, sometimes faces get a helping hand (honest, this was not intended . . . I know that for a fact because I didn’t do it).

Last, but not least, something right out of Dr. Who . . . OK, it was just packaging for some lights we bought.

Anyway, them be a small number of the many faces I’ve collected through the years.

This LINK will take you to the SmugMug gallery that has the above and also photos in recent reminder posts. Be aware that for these quick posts, the size in the SmugMug Gallery is the same as the size here. You can also click on the individual photos above for a larger version . . . and here’s the gallery of the photos.

For them who might want to look at something else, here’s a LINK to . . . well, the strange workings of my mind.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

  1. A clever series of shots. It is surprising how often we see see human faces in everyday items. Even more surprising that some will often attribute the face to just one person.

    1. Thank you . . . I assume you’re familiar with the Face of Mars, where a dead pixel contributed to wild speculations about a civilization that either lived on or visited Mars and built a monument.

As for the faces above, the first is, obviously, Alfred Hitchcock.

      1. Yes. On the “face of it” this was an easy thing to envisage when the light angle was right and the image resolution was low. The alien crazed hoi poloi prematurely claimed it as firm evidence of an ancient civilisation on Mars. It was an interesting image at the time – but of course subsequent images made them look silly.

      2. Yeah . . . truthfully, it was a bit of a disappointment, actually.

I think it would have been interesting if there had been a civilization on Mars that got wiped out a couple of hundred million years ago.

Especially if it was a fairly advanced civilization . . . it would give this civilization something to think about,

    1. Thanks, AnnMarie.

I’ve been meaning to paint more of them up, but I kept putting it off. Then I figured they will just have to stand on their own merit.

  2. HA! These made me snort-laugh! I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees faces everywhere!
AND I’m so glad you DON’T follow the rule “Don’t play with your food.” These are fun, funny, memorable photos!
The Blueberry Muffin looks tipsy to me! HA!
