Travel Photos — Where in the World 007

Occasionally, I remember I’m still doing these posts . . . er . . . should be doing these posts.

. . . and then, like today, I do.

As mentioned before, all the WitW photos are collected in THIS<<link SmugMug Gallery.  Each new post will identify the previous post’s photo. The poll below is mostly to amuse and entertain, but I name the location and possibly a red herring or two. It’s fine with me if you look up the answer, and I won’t care much which name you vote for because, hey, you might want to amuse yourself as well. It’s open to multiple voting for people who like more than one answer. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

The location of the photos in the previous post<<link showcased the greenhouse found at the  Chicago Navy Pier<<link. For them interested in looking at it on Google Earth, here’s a photo<<link with the coordinates (41°53’27.51″ N 87°36’20.14″ W — paste these in Google Earth).

Here we go with the next offering. I photographed this hole in a wall in July of 2006. Long-time readers of the blog will likely recognize it (maybe), and the shape of the hole might point readers to the location and specific landmark. Free Hint: it’s not about the hole.

Side Note: I’m using the Block Editor to compose this post. That means twice as many clicks to insert photos and have them align and look as I want them to. I’m currently in a discussion with WordPress Support regarding the Classic Editor not working as it should on FireFox after the latest browser update. If anyone else is using FireFox and the Classic Editor, and if you are having issues with it, let me know.

Anyway, this particular . . . thing . . . was alongside a road. I did something with the above that I don’t usually do . . . I included people in the photo. That gives a sense of scale to the . . . thing.

One thing about red rocks (yes, this . . . thing . . . is out West, where most red rocks are found), they don’t lend themselves to being converted into paintings (using Topaz Impression plugin).

Say! . . . imagine if the thing was made out of gold! I betcha that would have sparked a massive gold rush . . . and there would’ve been nothing left for me to photograph.

That’s done using the Topaz Restyle plugin (and then Impression) . . . it sure would be nice if I could convert these crappy blocks into golden blocks. But, alas, no.

I can, however, convert the original photo to monochrome.

Of course, I have a few other photos . . . but, because it’s a pain inserting individual photos using blocks (thanks for nothing, WordPress), I’ll just add a gallery . . .

. . . and here’s the poll . . .

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

    1. Thank you, Carolyn.

Since we don’t exchange gifts, but there’s always chocolate around, every day is St. Valentine’s Day for us, but wishing you a great St. Valentine’s Day as well.

    1. Thanks for the good guess, but it’s not.

Close to there (relatively speaking), but not in a National Park per see. But it does sit on BLM land.

No, not that BLM; the other BLM, as in Bureau of Land Management.

      1. Well, that explains why the poll gets so few votes . . . and also (possibly) points to why we don’t get many votes for our stories. If people are reading then with the reader, they don’t see the Poll so that they can vote.

I did not know that, but since the competition is almost over, I don’t know that it matters much.

        1. Just to be clearer, the poll itself does not appear in the Reader, but there is a link where it should be that says “Take our Poll.”

        2. Well, that’s something, anyway, but given people’s short attention span, how many will actually click on the link to take the poll?

Not many, I’d wager, because it takes time away from looking at cat photos and reading stuff geared at making them angry.

          Thanks for the update.

    1. It’s OK, I’m deeply into discussions with videos I provided and documentation of various conditions. So far, two chats and about ten emails.

They are not likely to resolve it anytime soon.

  1. Since the poll only allowed me three choices, I chose the funny ones instead of the real McCoy. And the gold version is really striking.

  2. Ah…but we know people add perspective and show us just how damn big the thing actually is…. 🙂

Very nice, Emilio…and from the side of the road, too….

  3. This reply is delayed a bit, (reading this post 3/1/21,) but a first glance of the image rang a bell with both route numbers, …and after checking …my two kids, and one grandson and I have driven (over one very long day,) east from Bull Frog, Utah, then north, on Rt. 191, thru Moab, and eventually to Salt Lake City, passing up Wilson Arch, because we were arched-out, and heading home. My posts about that 3 day whirlwind trip were Posted around 12/8/15. Utah is Awesome! M 🙂

    1. Yeah, we hit this before getting to Arches, so it was more of a novelty than it might have been had we passed by it afterward.

Utah has amazing scenery (as do other states around there), and I wished we’d traveled it a bit more than we did. Then again, I say that about all the places we’ve lived in.
