Halloweens That Were

Some readers (one) made mention of traveling back in time and reading my prior Halloween offerings.

“Good luck with that!” I thought, “Time travel is kind of messy.”

It turns out they meant revisiting my prior Halloween posts. Well, ever the show-off, I figured I’d lend a helping hand.

This blog was born in March of 2010 following the failure of two other platforms (lots of lost writing, but that’s life . . . or death).

However, there was no Halloween post in 2010 because . . . well, it wasn’t a thing yet. Why, back then I did mostly writing and posts had a scarcity of photos because I (naively) believed people would go to SmugMug and see the photos once I pointed them that way. In fact, clicking on any photos back then would take you to the SmugMug gallery of said photos.

WordPress subsequently made numerous — and ill-advised — changes which resulted in many of those links being lost. I’m still griping about it because writing those posts in that way took a lot of time and effort.

Anyway, blood under the bridge, as they say. What? They don’t say that?

. . . I should probably stop saying it, too . . .

Anyway, blade into flesh, as they say. Halloween 2011 had no dedicated post but there was a post in honor of October being a Halloween month. Still no photo or graphics, but I offered a short story, one of my favorites.

Proper Halloween posts didn’t start until 2012 and featured these photos:

Corny, but fun. I also had the Halloween tweets I did that year and a story about a witch-burning. Another of my favorites, it was.

Hallowe’en 2013 found me busy with stuff and all I offered was a photo . . . a photo of Bones, Bob Bones.

For Halloween 2014 — once again busy as we were going on a cruise — I made a hurried effort bot with the photo . . .

. . . and with the story. It’s really not that good. I mean, the concept (I thought) was OK, but the execution was piss-poor. Read it HERE if you must.

Halloween 2015 saw me pen a standard trope but I like the end result. The photo was another quick effort:

Halloween 2016 had another favorite short story (HERE) and that was the first use of the PanosFx free Photoshop Halloween Action. I liked the flexibility of the action and the creative license it allowed in composing the end result.

By the way, there was a subsequent post making use of other offerings from PanosFx (HERE). For example:

I went back to the Spooky Action for Halloween 2017:

. . . and contributed a background story for Bones, the guardian cat mentioned in the 2016 story.

Last year’s Halloween saw us getting ready to move back to the mainland and I was also dealing with a few minor health issues (old age; can’t live with it, can’t live without it); all I offered up was another graphic using the PanosFx action.
