Project 313 – Post No. 301

WordPress continues to “tweak” its interface and making it more difficult to smoothly produce posts without having to jump through hoops. That means that every day and every change increases the likelihood this blog might migrate to another platform or cease to function altogether.  

Honestly, I don’t understand it. Who is WordPress listening to? No user I know is asking for these changes and no one I know is happy with the direction they’re taking. 

Most companies start going downhill once they stop listening to their customers and, instead, start telling their customers “how things should be”. 

I’m hoping (and I’m on the lookout) for a new blogging platform to crop up and feed the multitude of disgruntled WordPress users. And, it says something when a fairly loyal user (me) is actually considering stopping the blog as a viable alternative to the continued aggravation. 

I soldier on . . . frustrated, pissed off, irritated, and generally displeased, but I soldier on. Soon, I’ll start looking at alternatives but, for now, I offer THIS blog post from a happier and more carefree time. The post reviews a strip we took to Mt. Baker, WA. Specifically, it discusses how the post-processing tools improved over the years and salvaged photos that had been deemed unusable. I should do another post using the latest tools (much better than four years ago).

That’s a Western Bluebird (female, I think) in (appropriately) a field of blue. 

The concept of tipping is well-ingrained in the American psyche. There is a fair amount of discussion one can have as to the benefits (or not) of the practice. I’m of two minds about it. On the one hand, I’m annoyed that restaurants charge me for the pleasure of being served the food I purchase. 

On the other hand, waiters and waitresses can make a pretty decent living with their income somewhat tied to the service they give. For a full discussion of the pros and cons, HERE is an informative piece. 

Meanwhile, one possible consequence of eliminating tipping (funny, but unlikely). 

Poor Mr. Boffo . . . he ain’t never gets no respect.

    You are seeing the established system in IT of fixing things that aren’t broken until they are.
    Personally, I stick doggedly to the original post creation system, which still works.

      I am referring to the classic (original) system. It’s the one I use, but they keep changing stuff there too.

      The latest change is the way you can copy a post. It used to be an option in the menu. Now you have to go find the post you want to copy and then select it once you choose the title of the post.

      Not a tremendous big deal other than it adds 2-3 extra clicks and a search to the process. More time spent. Also, they’ve messed up the creation of galleries in the classic editor. I now have to switch to the new editor whenever I need to add a gallery to the post (the classic editor freezes).

      Also, and it’s not an issue for short posts, the scrolling is messed up once you get to a certain length. You have to fiddle with the sliders to get to the bottom of the post.

      Like I said . . . a bunch of little tweaks that serve no purpose other than to piss off people by removing ease of operation and adding arbitrary hurdles.

    Re tipping: I’ve always thought of it as a means for employers to dodge paying the sort of wages they should. Tips, when given, should never go into a pool and should be a personal gift to the receiver for exceptional (not merely good) service.

  5. I don’t like when WP makes changes. I have a hard enough time with understanding the stuff I already understand! HA!
    PHOTO: OHMYGOSH!!!!!!!! Love this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Can you tell?!) Love everything about it! I would hang it on my wall to enjoy and to remind myself to stop and be more pensive.
    CARTOON: :-D My youngest got academic scholarships to college, but she, also, ran a coffee shop and was a hostess at a fancy restaurant…I learned a lot from her about tipping, tippers, non-tippers, food service, etc.! It is one of those jobs where IF you do a great job, you can have a positive effect on your income. Cool!

      Truthfully, I’m ambivalent about the processing. It’s not quite what I wanted but I do like the look.

      I imagine that in the right location and establishment, one can do well with tips. On the other hand, many places don’t have the clientele to support high-end earnings from tips.

      As I mentioned above, it wasn’t quite what I envisioned but it’s nice enough.

      I’m glad, however, that others have such a positive reaction to it.
