Project 313 – Post No. 237

I mentioned before that I was immediately interested in the Topaz Plugins. The big draw I saw in their approach was the Lifetime Updates model. Meaning, you buy something and you have a license that grants you the right to any subsequent release of the software. 

At the time, I was skeptical because I got burned with a few such claims (you, WinZip; yes, you; you lied to me. Also, QPrint, and a few others). There’s one other company whose product I bought as a lifetime license with free upgrades and who’s honored the promise . . . . DVD-Fab. It’s a software for ripping DVDs so that you can make backup copies. That came in handy when one of my LotR extended editions discs got damaged. The box set now has the original and the backup copy that will actually play.  

In theory, you can also use it to pirate movies, however, I use it to back up my DVD collection. 

Realistically, I don’t use DVDFab any more because I haven’t bought a DVD for a long time now (haven’t found a recent movie I want to own). Still, I get an update whenever they release a new version. Really, all software should work like that.

But, back to Topaz . . . HERE is the first of three posts I did exploring their Simplify 4 plugin.

This is the last of the engine photos. I wonder what it takes to keep an engine looking that sparkly . . . not using it? But they drove the car to the show. Maybe everything has been Rain-Xed.

This reminds me so much of GM management-types that I’m having flashbacks.

Of course, that pretty much covers any financial advisor, political pundit, and anyone wanting to make a living without actually working. 

I decided to get a bit fancy with the . . . Spinning Escher, Rose Petals, and Life Savers Spinner. However, despite the symmetry of distribution, Life Savers are not as homogeneous as they seem and so — once again — we have a wobbly spinner that’s not likely to sell.

Some of these posts will likely be longer as the mood hits me, but most will be thus; short, uninteresting, bland, and relentless.
