Project 313 – Post No. 196

For them heading into Winter, HERE’s an example of Winter driving.

Let me be clear you shouldn’t attempt to duplicate what I’m officially not doing in those videos.

For them who want to know, from 2006 to 2013, I would drive from Monument, Colorado, Elevation 7,350 feet, to Woodland Park, Colorado, Elevation 8,450 feet, by going through Colorado Springs, Colorado, Elevation 6,200 feet. That’s about 92 miles round-trip.

And now, the photo:

This is the first of three pairs of photos rendered both as color versions and B&W versions.  I vacillated between alternating color and B&W and showing all the colors ones first and then all the B&W photos.  I think alternating works best . . . also, it’s the sequence in my file folder.

This next cartoon got me thinking . . .

. . . gosh, I hope I don’t become the league’s star player.

Alternatively, these are . . . Ancient new bone fossils archeologists color-coded for assembly into the hind vestigial leg of a giant seafaring guppy — looks like the left leg with one huge toe and three little toes

And . . . that’s it

Some of these posts will likely be longer as the mood hits me, but most will be thus; short, uninteresting, bland, and relentless.

You can read about Project 313 HERE.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

  1. Your roads look so nice and big and straight and easy to drive on compared to our Cornish roads, even with the snow! No need to reverse when a tractor comes along on those highways.

    1. That’s actually the “easy” part of the road.

The windy bit (although still a comfortable two lanes) is before that part. Here is a video of the drive down. Again, I levitated the camera because it would be crazy negotiating those curves while going above the speed limit and paying attention to a tiny screen and passing other (inferior) drivers.

  2. Oh, man! Those videos were cool! But, reminded me how much I DON’T like driving in the rain or on ice. Yet, Winter is on it’s way! 😮 One time we were in Denver on Mother’s Day (visiting one of my kiddos) and it snowed! Wow! You had quite a drive! Looks like they took good care of the roads. We lived in the mountains at 7000 ft. and that was high enough for me.

PHOTO: Very flag-gy! What car is that logo from?! I’m trying to think and nothin’s happenin’!
CARTOON: HA! Now that’s funny to the max!
DOODLE: Beautiful and colorful bones! And 1 huge toe and 3 little toes is better than 3 huge toes and 1 little toe! Trust me on this!
    HUGS!!! 🙂

    1. The local joke (which is not a joke) is that that road is always clear because it’s the only way to get to Cripple Creek (where the casinos are). In addition to people who go there on their own, there are regular shuttles and buses that go up and down that pass.

In all the years I went up and down that pass, the only time it was ever closed was after the Waldo Canyon fire when mudslides became a regular occurrence after a heavy rain.

  3. I never encountered any mudslides while living up there, but I did enjoy the driving. I almost got divorced following a drive over Raton Pass from New Mexico into Colorado many years ago…my wife was convinced that I didn’t love her or the kids anymore, given my insistence that road conditions were really okay to drive in….. That was quite a while ago…the kids are grown and safe in their adulthoods, and my wife and I are still together and living back down in the desert without risk of encountering Raton Pass again any time soon…. 😉
