Project 313 – Post No. 117

For them who’ve not heard, the lava is slowing down (if not stopping) and the earthquakes have dropped from multiple hundreds a day to around 50-70 a day. It could be this is a lull and stuff will resume but I think the lava stopped to rest while the two hurricanes heading our way (one after the other) pick up the slack. 

It’s that time of year. That means having water and food for about two weeks in case things go South. Actually, if they go South, they will miss the Island so I’m not sure where that saying comes from or how it applies here, but suffice it to say we are prepared. We have Spam. Enough said. 

The only concern I have is the possibility of losing power and me not being able to do these posts. I mean, sure, sure, there are concerns for our safety, but that’s nothing compared to not getting these posts out.

I mean, what would my readers do without them? Read the news, or something?

Anyway, back to the hurricanes. There’s not much indication the hurricanes would severely impact the island, if at all.

On the other hand, they were saying the closest sucker wouldn’t make it to Category 2 and it’s now a solid Category 4 hurricane. They’re counting on it crossing some cooler waters to cut some of its power. We’ll see. 

I have my Spam at the ready.

It used to be — and still is to a degree — we both had a strong desire to live by water. Honestly, we would prefer lakes, but oceans are also neat. I hear you can travel all around the world in one.

I’ve seen that joke repeated a few times throughout my years of reading comics. It could be cartoonists get ideas from each other but I think it’s more probably that people trained in looking at things with a slight bent might come up with the same idea.  

Certainly, I’ve come up with stuff I thought was original only to find out others worked out the same things I did. Take religion, for instance; I thought I had all manner of originals counterarguments to the nonsense and it turns out many, many others arrived at similar conclusions as I did. 

Still, I prefer using others as a double-check to my own thinking as opposed to them doing the thinking for me. 

There’s something that seems wrong about appropriating other people’s thinking as one’s own. It would be a bit like if I traced the above cartoon and then changed the tagline to read something else.

I would give you an example but I have this hurricane barreling down on me, so maybe next time.
