Testing stuff — photo stuff

In THIS post, I did something different because I didn’t want to use up new photos . . .

I linked photos from my SmugMug account. The thing is, the photos looked especially nice. So nice that even cranky curmudgeons from the bottom of the world liked them.

I’m not bragging . . . usually, I upload photos to the Media Library and then post insert them into the posts I write.

The thing with that method is that I’m never all that happy with how the photos look in the post. I’m reasonably certain WordPress does its best to rip out whatever life the photo possesses and show a moribund hulk in its place.

So, I decided to do a test . . . don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything. Well, that’s mostly true. I might ask you a question or two.

Like, between these two photos, which looks better to you . . .

Number 1:

. . . or No. 2:

How about this one . . . No. 3:

. . . or No. 4:

Next up . . . No. 5:

. . . or No. 6:

How about No. 7:

. . . or No. 8:

Just a few more . . .

No. 9:

. . . or No. 10:

Let me try a few landscape versions as they might be easier to compare . . .

No. 11:

. . . or No. 12:

No. 13:

. . . or No. 14:

Choose No. 15:

. . . or No. 16:

How about No. 17:

. . . or No. 18:

And, lastly, a few flowers . . .

No. 19:

. . . or No. 20:

No. 21:

. . . or No. 22:

No. 23:

. . . or No. 24:

Hmmm . . . as I look at these, I have a difficult time choosing.

Most look pretty close but knowing what to look for, I could tell them apart (I mixed them up so that I didn’t know which were which).

Oh, well; it probably won’t matter to most, but I’m thinking it’s from SmugMug from now on.

If you voted, thank you, thank you, and then thank you.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

Hard choices since they are all great photos! I am going to go for #17. It’s where I rather be these days than being stuck in the office. And it looks definitely cooler from our summer weather since I have never been one for warm temps! MZ

  2. OOH!!! I love to vote!!!

    I do-ed it, you’re welcome, you’re welcome, and then you’re welcome.

Great photos! I especially love the bee shot, the reflection photo, the aspens, and the smiley-face plane.

After looking at each photo…then I focused in on one or two or three specific spots on each photo. And maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me…but in some of the pairs, I swear one photo looked lighter or clearer.

Are you gonna’ ‘fess up and tell us each pair really is identical and we all need to get our eyes checke-ed?! HA!

    That’s it.
    Except for the HUGS!!!

The photos are the same photos but one is uploaded to the Media Library and then linked in the post and the other is just a link from the same photo in SmugMug.

Some are hard to tell apart and look pretty much the same but others have a definite difference in sharpness.

On the ones where there is an obvious difference, the voting went as expected. The flower ones are very difficult to tell apart. I think that’s because the differences come out more clearly in shaded or dark areas and also if there are a lot of details.

There’s still some testing I need to do but I’ll probably be changing to just linking photos from SmugMug because they appear better to my eyes (and most of the voting confirms it). Maybe not for all the photos but for most.

      Thanks for the voting.

No matter what you say, I can see no difference, but the truth is my eyesight isn’t as good as it was.

That’s fine. There are so many variables that it’s difficult to pinpoint common responses to visuals in a post.

I’m also asking people to look closer than they normally would. Had I presented either photo of those pairs as a single offering, it would have been fine; no one would have complained.
