Quick update with a few photos

Still kind of busy. Also, my computer is not connected, so I’m using the wonderful WordPress app. That, for them who know me not, is sarcasm.

First of all, here’s a photo . . .

Not sure if this will work, but all these photos are also in THIS SmugMug Gallery. Also, if the app works the way I think it does, each photo is linked to the corresponding photo in the SmugMug Gallery. At least, that’s how I hope it works.

Of course, I won’t be able to check until I have my PC up and running.

Also, because I don’t have the PC up and running, I’m using the phone to read blog posts, something that many people do but that I dislike.

Anyway, a few versions of the photos that appear here have no corresponding version in SmugMug. For instance, the above photo was thrown into Pixlr and . . .

I kept piling on effects and threw in a double exposure as a finishing touch. Basically, it’s a mess, hence the above is only here and not in SmugMug.

However, these flowers are nice . . .

. . . and they are in SmugMug.

Needless to say, these look better in SmugMug, but even as I say that, I know most people are in too much of a hurry to check them out. That’s OK; they are there for the few.

So, like, what’s kept me busy these last few weeks and probably for another week or so?

Well, the condo we were renting is being sold and that meant we had to move. That necessitated a search for another place, but it also had us do parallel planning to return to the mainland if we could not find a place before the end of the month.

Luckily, we had a choice of a couple of condos and ended up choosing one that is near Casa de Emdeko which, loyal reader might remember, is where we used to stay whenever we visited the Big Island.

Time for another photo . . .

The app is acting up again . . . oh well; it means I will keep this relatively short.

To continue, we had planned on taking a week to move but that got shortened to four days but that had us it into the Easter Holiday weekend and so we shortened to three days and then, for various reasons, it ended up being one day . . . Monday . . . when it rained off and on all day.

The new place doesn’t have covered parking and the parking space is about 70-80 feet from the parking lot and we’re on the second floor and there’s no elevator.

The good thing is we didn’t have that much to move (four car trips) but the bad thing is what we moved was heavy and bulky . . . hence my back is in a precarious state. As in, I can’t bend down to pick up anything, not even gold coins that might be lying on the sidewalk, and I can’t run the hurdles or free-climb El Capitan. Of course, I only ever do one of those three things aand it’s not usually gold coins but I do occasionally find a penny, but still . . .

The above is an old water wagon that sits at the Visitor Center in Cripple Creek. No particular reason why it’s here; I just stumbed on the photo when I was looking for photos I could play with.

Back to my update. Overall, things went as smoothly as we could have hoped for.

That’s my little halloween ghost atop my radiometer. There’s an additional version of this photo in SmugMug that’s without the special effects . . . but, it looks pretty much like the above without the special effects.

Here’s another special effects photo . . .

That’s the entry arch to the Vicksburg National Monument. The park is the site of a Civil War battle and I believe it’s also where Lee surrendered to Grant. The General and future President, not the actor.

There is no corresponding version of the above photo in Smugmug, but there is one of the following photo:

People might be wondering about our plans for both the near and long term . . .

Heck if we know! I mean, right now we’re just flapping in the breeze and at the mercy of the shifting winds of history. We have more options that we know what to do with, so the short term plans are to recoup from the move, eat, and relax.

Say, how would you like to see a photo of a bunch of fabric?

There you go. Astute readers with a decent memory might remember my visit to the Denver Fabric Factory (or something like that) and that was one of the many photos I snapped with the Note 2.

And so we come to the end of this quick update. I know I might have raised more questions than I answered in the minds of many, but such is the nature of our existence; we wander in the darkness of space atop a spinning rock not knowing where we came from and where we’re going, and all the while wishing for someone – anyone – who could give us even a glimpse of what it all means.

All I can tell you I ain’t that someone, but I can give you advice on how to cope with it all . . . take a small bowl, put in a decent amount of Cheerios (but not heaping), add some milk, and spoon the mixture into your mouth as you stare mindlessly at the blank wall in front of you.

It won’t help you gain any insight into the mysteries of the universe, but you won’t care because your hunger will have abated and you now have a bowl and spoon to wash.

. . . don’t forget to put the milk back in the fridge.

You are welcome.

Sorry to hear that you had to move, and hope the new place will be a good replacement. Very sorry about your back, and hope you are feeling better soon, and that you both find the new apartment a pleasant change.

      Thanks, Sandra.

The back discomfort is usually a short-term thing, so I’ll not worry unless it longer more than a few years. The apartment offers different opportunities, like being able to walk to Kona proper during events and access to the shoreline via a short walk. We lose covered parking and a great view.

Well see how things work out, but we’re fairly pragmatic and adaptable.

Thanks for your concern and wishes.

It was a foggy morning and perfect for viewing the National Park’s many monuments. Not sure I ever did a proper accounting of that visit. Perhaps someday soon.

It was late and I was tired. I was remembering seeing the site where Pemberton surrendered to Grant but couldn’t remember for sure what was signed but I knew it was a turning point for the war.

Hopefully, my brother-in-law won’t read this or I’ll never hear the end of it (he’s a huge Civil War buff).

  6. Thank you!
BTW: Can they be Honey-Nut Cheerios?!?!

I love your fabric photos! I DO remember the post you did of photos taken in a fabric store! That was a cool group of photos! I enjoyed them mucho muchly much!

Love the special effects photos, too!

Glad you found a place and got moved! Will there be new places to explore and photograph?! I hope so!

Best wishes on what you and Melisa decide to do next. Oh, and hope your back is feeling better soon.
    HUGS!!!

Sure, although they’re not my favorite (I like the Multigrain best but they have more sugar; I eat the plain Cheerios and we always have a couple of baggies of them in the car for when we want to quick snack – we eat them dry, of course).

Also, I misspoke . . . it’s the Colorado Springs Mill Outlet, not Denver Fabrics which is another fabric store in, yes, Denver.

For them interested, here are the four posts from that visit:

As for this place, I’m a couple of hundred yards from the shoreline and two miles from the center of Kona so, yes, more frequent photo opportunities.

Thank you also for your wishes. We have a plan of sorts but it’s a loosey-goosey kind of thing that might shift on a whim.

And, my back is recouping . . . but I’m still moving stuff around, so it’ll probably take a bit longer. We plan to begin our exercise regiment on Monday, the day after JC gets up and moves on; less traffic to deal with then, I imagine.

      • I was teasing you…actually my fav Cheerios are the original ones…and I add fruit, like bananas or blueberries to swim in the milk with them! :-)

YAY for more frequent photo opportunities! I’ll get to see more things I’ve never seen, via your photo-travels!

Loosey-goosey and whims can be good!

Yes, Monday sounds like a better day for getting out and about.

Friday through Sunday will be busy here…traffic-wise and otherwise…as people come here to ski, etc. on long weekends.

        HUGS!!! :-)
