I’m busy, honest!

To some, it may look like I’m slacking off in my posting. Well, I’m here to tell you that once you retire, you’ll find time just slips through your fingers. Whereas I used to be able to do a lot when I was working forty hours a week — fifty, if you count travel times — I now don’t seem to have the time to do basic stuff like personal hygiene, taking out the garbage, and doing laundry. Thank goodness for disposable wipes, the woods behind and below our condo unit, and cheap clothes.

I often envy animals living out in the wild . . . you just sit out in the rain to wash your durable fur and you can just drop your poo where ever you want. Some even choose to sling it. If they ever evolve, they’ll probably be politicians.

Florida 2013, Animal Kingdom,

That happens to be one of my submissions to Monochrome Madness, as is this next shot . . .

. . . and this . . .

Vicksburg NP

I have them here just so they get a few eyes on them. I don’t think many of my readers visit Monochrome Madness.

Anyway, as an update, I’ve spent a couple of days processing photos from the second day of our 2017 Alaska Cruise, when we visited Yakutat Bay. Here’s the thing . . . I’ve managed to pare down 602 photos into a mere 141 photos and of those, 18 are panoramas.

Get this; a third of those are over 20 MB each and one tops out at 38.5 MB (something like seventeen photos stringed together to show the glacier in the bay).

I still have to process and sort out the videos so it might be a few days before I begin posting those. I’ll probably have to split the total into at least two posts but even so, they are going to be long posts.

For them who think I’m taking too long, I’ll remind you there are other posts (for example, HERE) from the cruise and also that I have 8,859 photos I have to process. It may take a while.

Today, I’m debating if I want to get up at 3:30am (local time) to see the total lunar eclipse. Can’t decide if it’s worth losing what little sleep I get. Last night, I took these two shots of the nearly-full moon.

I’ve seen a couple of total lunar eclipses in my life (actually, I think it was three) so there’s not a tremendous incentive.

Let’s see, what else? Oh, yeah, I still need to process the photos from the woodcraft show I attended last week. Here’s a beautiful Koa piece . . .

The thing with Koa is that it seems like you’re seeing deep into the grain, as if it were made of crystal. It’s difficult to explain.

I took all the photos using the phone as it was easier to find shooting angles that avoided annoying reflections. There were other things there besides wood works of art . . .

. . . things like this, which I would like but don’t want to spend over $1,000 on . . .

When I have a proper office again, I’ll indulge in a couple of crystal pieces, including a crystal ball.

I have other photos from the phone which I’ll eventually have to process and share . . .

And, that’s not even counting stuff I still have from last year that I want to share. So much to do, so little time . . . I understand, now, why astronauts wear diapers. Who has the time for a proper bathroom break?

Oh, FSM! . . . I just remembered I’m also supposed to write fiction!

Here’s the gallery of the above. There is no associated SmugMug gallery but you can click on the individual files for a larger version.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

  1. Letting days flow and fold into one another. Better life, that. The glass is beautiful, but that wood piece – the skill carving is one thing, but the art work of the grain. Combo of nature’s art showcased by an observant and fine craftsperson.

    1. There were a number of pieces that we would have loved to own . . . I think that particular piece was $11,500, and that’s not even the one we voted for. Without knowing the price ahead of time, the one we voted for was one of the highest priced pieces; a bench that lists at $23,000. The only thing that was higher was a dining set for $30,000.

Alas, all of those are well outside any consideration of ever owning.

    1. Actually, that’s the same jellyfish piece with different lighting (I think it was a spotlight with a rotating filter that caused the difference in color).

And yes, that is a fire hydrant and one I was quite taken with. I’d never seen one like it and it reminded me of the Bad Robot Production logo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Robot_Productions).

It’s likely I’ll play with that photo a few more times.

    1. I like looking it at it but two reasons why I wouldn’t own it . . . one, the $11,500 price tag. Two, having to dust it; it’s taller than I am and I’d worry I’d topple it as I climbed it to dust the top. Plus, I think my climbing cleats would mark up the wood.

    1. It certainly is made with someone in mind who has a lot of room (and money).

I also think that in the dimension you quote it might be too fragile and possibly too difficult to work with because you might be cutting into major portions of the grain and what gives wood pieces their strength.

Disclaimer: I ain’t no woodworker and claim no knowledge driving my opinions. In other words, it’s just my opinion.

  2. Wow! The koa wood art is beautiful! As is the jellyfish glass! I’d rather own the jellyfish than the wood sculpture.

I think that stunning gorilla probably slings less poo than some of our current politicians. Especially the poo-slingin’ head turkey. 😦

Cooper and I take a walk every night late. And we saw the lunar eclipse. Tonight the moon is beautiful, too.

HUGS!!! and where does the time go?!

    1. I went to sleep at 1:00 am so I wasn’t going to get up . . . except that I woke up at 3:25 so I grabbed the camera and headed out. Unfortunately, it was overcast. I caught a couple of glimpses of the red moon but too faint for the camera sensor to pick it up and focus.

      Maybe next time.
