Just a quick post . . .

. . . so I can share more Deep Dream efforts. For instance . . .

I also want to share a few observations. For instance . . .

I read a lot of stuff like this. Apparently, many habits and activities will increase your risk of dying.

Let me set your mind at ease: there’s nothing that increases your risk of dying . . . it’s already 100% and it’s not going any higher.

Anyway, I’m having a lot of fun with Deep Dream. I have lots of photographs that lend themselves to being blended with each other.

I wish I could show you the originals, but that would be too much work. If you want to see them, get an account and check out my gallery HERE.

Sometimes, I’ll try one combination and it’s OK, so I then try another. For instance, the opening shot of the fly was my second attempt. Here’s the first:

Occasionally, I try stuff and nothing I do gets me to what I envision. Such was the case with the photo of the goat . . .

I want to speak a moment about subtle humor. Judging by the number of people who miss most of mine, I conclude that subtle humor is a difficult target to hit using written language. Often, even verbal offerings miss the mark (again, personal experience.)

The visual medium offers a better chance for understanding even if slightly delayed. In fact, the slight delay in getting the joke makes it that more enjoyable (at least it does for me). Here are some examples of humor coming at you from left field.

Sometimes, subtlety is in the message . . .

In case people are wondering, I’m a cartoon packrat. I gots me cartoons going back to the 80s. Some of the strips have long since stopped publishing . . .

But, back to Deep Dream . . . You’ve already seen one of the treatments of my header photo, but here are the other tries.

One of the animals that seems to come out pretty good with almost any blending I throw at it is the buffalo. Here’s another example.

Here’s a blending of a cat with a photo of the spinner from a few posts ago . . .

Wait . . . I did say this was going to be a short post . . . How about one more and we’ll call it quits?

This last shot is a blend of a potato face and some shells.

This . . .

. . . plus this . . .

The shells . . .

 . . . gives you this:

Here’s the gallery for this post . . . at some point, I’ll do a SmugMug gallery with all the Deep Dreams in it.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

Dude, I make my living as a graphic artist, and I’m blown away by your stuff. F’ing awesome!

Thank you, but there’s very little talent on my part. Mostly choosing two photos to blend and letting the AI do its thing.

About the only credit I can take is that I’m using my own photos. You should go to the general link and look at some of the stuff from other users.

I followed your link to the gallery and found out how very good at blending you are! There’s some stunningly beautiful photos in there, but found myself mesmerized by the heron blended with the globe! Since I cannot ‘like’ without signing in, I guess I’ll have to do that.

Yup; you need to sign in to be able to rate the various dreams (mine or those of other people). You don’t need to sign in to see the gallery and if you hover over the photos, it shows you the two original photos that were blended. There are a couple of switches you can throw to control the blending, but I mostly use the same combination of settings for my efforts.

Anything I put in the blender gives me pulp or juice. I must be doing it wrongly.

  4. Wow! Love these, Emilio! Your photos are already amazing…then you “marry” them and Deep Dream them! :-) So unique and beautiful! The cat and the colorful spinner is my fav! :-) The potato face and the shells…way to go on showing your work! I enjoy seeing that! :-)

Ha! On your humor! :-D I enjoy your humor! And HA on the comics you shared here! Hugger that I am…the hugging bear made me snort laugh! :-D
Coming a family of sarcastic folk, the sarcasm comics made me laugh out loud!
    HUGS!!! :-)

Thanks, diem3 . . . Sarcasm is strong in me . . . enough to get me in the occasional trouble.

And, yes, some of those combinations are visually striking. I kind of feel guilty, though. There’s very little skill on my part; basically, a couple of mouse clicks. I mean, yes, I need to know the correct mouse key to press, but I manage it at least half the time just by blind luck.
