Topaz Labs are having their Spring Sale event, 40% off ending on the 18th, I think. Regular readers know I make use of a lot of their plugins and some might be even interested in buying some.
If you can afford it, you might want to shoot for the whole bundle (17 products for $499) but you can also get just the ones that interest you. Be aware that while their newer offerings run as standalone programs, the majority of them require another program (hence the name “plugins”). They do offer a program you can buy if you don’t have something like Photoshop or Aperture or Lightroom that will let you run all of the plugins.
Below, I offer examples of my previous efforts.
While not all the plugins can be easily demonstrated, it’s also true that many of the plugins have a large number of options and I opt to show only a few.
Hopefully, it’s enough to give you, the potentially interested reader, a taste of the plugins and what they can do. You should check out the examples online.
So, on to my previous efforts . . .

One of my earliest efforts from this image:

A more recent effort readers liked used this image:

In THIS post — one of the more extended efforts — I used mostly Topaz but also Photoshop to play with this image of Chicago’s Bean:
to get stuff like this . . .
Last August I played with some flower photos:
In September of last year, I played with a hummingbird:
You get the picture . . . you can do a lot of different things with Topaz Plugins.
“But,” you say, “that’s all old stuff! Ain’t you got anything new?”
I’m glad you asked . . . these next samples are from our 2007 visit to Yellowstone. They are presented in Gallery form for your viewing pleasure. The original size versions are in THIS SmugMug Gallery.
As I said, there are enough varied settings in each plugin so as to give one many, many choices even before playing with the sliders and button.
Also, as I said, it makes me no nevermind if one is interested or not in the plugins. But, if you are going to buy them anyway, this is a pretty good deal (and free updates for life).
No; I don’t get any kickbacks.
Here’s today musical interlude:
That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

It’s all too complicated for this poor old bugger, can’t you do something simple for a change?

You could simply enjoy the photos . . . or are you saying that looking at photos is too complicated for you?
Because, if that’s the case I’m afraid I can’t help you.
Well, I could post something simple for you to look at . . .

I LOVE that first one. It’s very reminiscent of a Japanese print I once had, ink and watercolor, of a lone pine tree on a mountainside. Of the others, I most like the ones that look like paintings.

Thanks . . . that photo is of a tree at Garden of the Gods.

I happened to come across it earlier in the day and I like the scene. I like the song in the scene (but only with the scene).
I was going to put this one up, but now I have a chance to do it here:

Amazing playing, Emilio! That must be so much fun…to play/change up your photos like this! And you created some cool, whimsical, pretty, neon-y, futuristic, velvety results from your original beautiful photos! 🙂
I especially love the flowers and the birdy and the snow photo! OOH…and the slideshows are fun to watch!
I’ve never seen that movie. I should! I’m gonna’ try to find it to watch this weekend. Great cast! Interesting that Don Rickles is in it! (and Kilroy 🙂 )
I saw The Dirty Dozen, The Longest Day, The Great Escape, The Bridge on the River Kwai, ETC. And some more “modern” ones like Tigerland, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, ETC.
HUGS!!! 🙂

Emilio: Your postings have naturally increased my interest in Topaz. I’m particularly looking for creating an illusion of a “painting” from some of my photos. I suppose most of them do this to a degree, but Is there a specific plug-in that you might suggest? I would be working with Aperture (unfortunately) but it seems from what you say, some of the “plug-ins” are compatible. Thanks for the heads up on the sale. M 🙂

That would be the Impression plugin:

That’s the one I use the most these days. My next most used is Restyle. All the plugins have a 30 days free trial so you can use them for a few days before the end of the sale to see if you like any. Here are a few examples of just Impression.
Impression works as a stand-alone as well as an external editor in Aperture:

There’s no denying that Topaz has some of the best plugins available. They were the first plugins I bought (years ago) and since Topaz offers free upgrades for life, they are still current. I think the B&W conversion is one of the best available.

I tend to use the onOne B&W module more than the Topaz, but yes.
For general B&W I also like the DxO Film Pack.

Some nice pics as ever, interesting effects. I enjoyed the music, I must watch Kellys Heros again it has to be twenty years since my last viewing.

I used to own it on Laser Disk format, but that has gone. I suppose I should buy me a copy for the occasional viewing.
