Just Because – April 2016

I’ve not done much shooting . . . photo shooting, that is. A few shots here and there, but really not that much. It’ll be a few months before that’s likely to change. For now, I thought I would go back many years and reprocess some photos of old . . .

. . . like this contorted trunk I shot in 2006 while hiking in Fox Run Park. Oddly enough, we’ve never seen any foxes in Fox Run. Perhaps they were running too fast and I missed them.

This next pair of shots, a Salsify bulb and the B&W Negative of it, are also from 2006. This particular Salsify seed ball was in my yard.

Shortly after shooting the above, I shot these next flowers. We used to have a lot of them, but they apparently do not do well here because I eventually lost them.

In May 2007, I took a detour while heading to work. I cut through Garden of the Gods to capture the early morning sun illuminating the red rocks as Pikes Peak stood vigil over them.

A few days later, a red finch would pose for me right outside the office.

By July of 2007, the snow finally gone, the flowers were busy doing what flowers do . . .

. . . and they carried on into August.

July of 2008 had us traveling over Independence Pass on our way to Aspen and Snowmass in the company of friends.

In July of 2008, I also captured some of my favorite hummingbirds action shots.

A stroke of luck, that was. That, and the amazing 80-400mm Nikon lens.

By late July 2008, some of my favorite wildflowers gave me a show during lunch break at work.

I’ll stop here because it’s late and I’m tired. Goodnight.

  1. I always enjoy your photographs, and am always happy to hear you are continuing along your own path, which can be quite interesting. You do pick interesting detours along the journey, sometimes amusing, sometimes impressive, sometimes just plain enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. (I would put a smiley emoticon there, but know I would never hear the end of it.)

  2. You’ve shared some of my favorite things in these photos! Finches, wildflowers, hummingbirds, mountains with water and snow, etc! Beautiful shots, Emilio! They made me smile on a cold rainy weekend. How can anyone look at them and not smile!? 🙂
“flowers busy doing what flowers do” made me laugh! I’m glad flowers keep busy and bring us such beauty and joy!
How is your time of “change”, etc. going?
Have you been doing any gun shootin’?!
HUGS and Happy Whee-kend to you and Melissa! 🙂

    1. Thanks diem3 . . . our time of change is progressing . . . have not done any actual shooting lately.

Thanks for the wishes, and best wishes for a great weekend for you as well, especially after the good news you just received.

  3. Color, color, texture! So very glad I can see all the above, great moment to appreciate my vision. I ESPECIALLY like the last shot of the wildflowers with the rocky background. Awesome inspiration! Thanks for the beauties!!!

    1. Until I was 13, we lived in Italy, and while not close, we could see the Alps.

Then . . . we moved to Illinois. The high spot in Illinois is an overpass over I-57. I think it’s near Effingham.

Moving to Colorado was a real treat, and not a day goes by that I don’t take notice of Pikes Peak.

      . . . wait . . . ONLY the first photo? Why, I never!
