Beach Globe and NNWM-2K15 Update

NNWM-2K15 Update:

Another chapter of my NNWM-2K15. I’m now on chapter 35, so I figured I could release Chapter 30.

The next post will contain Chapter 30 of the 2015 NaNoWriMo work-in-progress, and it will go up immediately after this post goes live. It’s password protected. Since it’s been a while, click HERE for the previous stuff.

Please, don’t ask for a password thinking it will make me feel good. Especially, don’t ask unless you’ve read the first few chapters and know that you are interested in reading more. Unless you intend to read it, don’t ask. I will not feel hurt, I will not cry myself to sleep, I will not hate anyone who chooses not to read my effort. I will, however, get a little miffed if I get asked for passwords by a bunch of people, and then only my regular four or five readers read the stuff.

Beach Globe:

I’m pretty sure we bought this Beach Globe (yes; it’s actual name, patent pending) sometime in the 80’s. We had taken a trip down to Marco Island, Florida, and this was a souvenir I brought back along with shells I collected and shells I bought. 

By the way, the above and all the photos you will see here (prior to them being butchered by various filters) are HDR versions of two identical shots, one with flash and one without. 

Creating an HDR version results in fewer reflections from the surroundings and eliminates the reflection from the flash. This was the first time I used the HDR option in Lightroom, and I thought it did a good job.

Anyway, the globe. The sand in there appears salt-and-pepper-like because a few years after I bought the globe I opened it to add a few more beach artifacts and a small amount of black sand from Hawaii. It does not look like it, but there are a lot of things in that globe. The globe itself measures about four inches in diameter and has a flat bottom. 

Of course, if I’m snapping photos, I will also play with them (much to the dismay of some of my readers), so here’s the result from the first filter I used.

By the way, there is no SmugMug gallery (this was a quick thing) but you can click on the photos and larger versions will open up in a new tab or window. 

So, back to the globe . . . rotate it around a bit, and new stuff comes to the surface.

Then, give it a slight “painted” look to get this:

What else is in there? Well, let’s see.

This time I’m giving it a bit of a vintage look and some texture.

Lest you think it’s only small stuff in there . . . 

Electrifying, ain’t it? Speaking of which . . . 

Here’s a different view of the larger shell . . . and, is that a sand dollar?

I think this version needs a mood-altering treatment . . .

Gots to have at least one B&W treatment for them who like them so.

Sometimes, the scene does not look “natural”. I mean, besides it being inside a glass globe. But, sometimes it do.

It’s the perfect scene for some “angry” or “apocalyptic” treatment.

In fear, many things huddle for mutual protection . . .

Of course, after a while, they start to look the same, blending into a massive jumble of excess, so I’ll stop at one more.

It looks like the right photo for the rusty metal and other stuff treatment . . .
