. . . we just don’t whine about it.
Night after night this past weekend we got inundated with “breaking news” from a snow storm out East. You would think they are the only ones who get snow.
OK, OK, we’ve not had any big dump in recent years, but let’s look at yearly averages:
New York – 26 inches yearly average
Washington D. C. – 14 inches yearly average
Monument, Colorado – 111 inches yearly average
We’ve had some decent blizzards since I’ve had the blog: HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Those are all during what I call our Snowblower Era. We got the snowblower because in 2009 Melisa got injured and was unable to help shovel. I can do the drive on my own, but Melisa laid down the law . . . if it’s only me, we get a snowblower.
BUT . . . 2006 is an example of the kind of work we faced between 2005 when we moved here and 2009 when we bought the snowblower.
That snowstorm was one of two since we’ve lived here that made the roads impassable because of drifting. We went out to shovel as the storm was ending and there was still a bit of snow falling.
This awaited us when we opened the garage . . .
Here is the view from outside . . .
I catch a lot of flack because of these next two photos . . .
Everyone asks me why I was not helping . . . don’t worry, I did my part.
It may look easy, but after a while you can’t just throw snow . . . you have to fling it well over your shoulders. Here’s what the backside of those mounds look like . . .
. . . and the front.
This is what the street looked like . . .
My neighbor did have a snowblower, but we were actually faster shoveling.
And this was a welcomed sight . . .
These next shots are of the intersection at the end of our street and the view along the road out from the subdivision.
After that snowstorm, whenever we were scheduled to have major dumps, we would go out every three hours or so and clear the snow while it was still snowing. We did not want a repeat of those drifts.
We are supposed to get 3″-5″ inches on Sunday, 3″-5″ inches on Monday, and 1″-3″ on Monday. Now, because we live on the Palmer Divide, we’ll likely see the top of those estimates and maybe more.
We won’t make the news, and our stores will not be emptied, and we’re not going to whine about it. I might even snap a few more photos.
That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

Who are you calling grumpy? I’m a veritable smile factory, I am. Cheerful to the point of annoyance (or so I’m told).

Quite a workout! But it is different for you guys because you are ‘used to it’…Lol.
Frankly, if I have to listen to the media babble on I would rather listen to reports on weather than Trump…fortunately we don’t have a TV, and if we did, I am not sure that the Gulf cares much about either….although perhaps they should care a bit about Trump….
Lovely pics as always.

I just read an article recommending people over 55 avoid shoveling snow. Thankfully, we were younger then.
As for Trump, he has a high entertainment quotient. Personally, I don’t think he really wants to be president. He does not want the responsibility. I think he’s enjoying the spotlight but will bow out if the danger of actually doing something becomes too real.
That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.
And, thanks.

Perhaps snow shoveling should be a recommended activity from a young age so that folk can continue to shovel after 55! I think you might be onto something there with Trump…bowing out of the debate this weekend is possibly a good example of what you are getting at..but then what a ball-ache of a job the Presidency must be! I wouldn’t want it either. Given folk a bit of a wake up call though, me thinks!

Wowza! Love your snow! But, that’s a lot of shoveling! 😮 Beautiful pics! 🙂
I live at the same elevation as Denver, but we did not get included in any storms the past couple weeks. We still have dirty snow in shady places and up in the higher elevations. (that might make a good song! 😉 😛 “Dirty Snow in Shady Places”! HA!)
HUGS!!! 🙂

If not a song, a good book title.

You did a tidy job of work there. Personally I would have curled up in front of the fire.

Keeping our drive clean is a thing with me. Cleanest drive in the neighborhood, every time. Also, less cleanup in the garage if the drive is clean.

It ain’t easy living in the snowbelt.. We get our share, too, especially being close to the lake, but I have to admit we don’t usually get what you show here. When we’re expecting a lot of snow, I try to keep up with it by going out several times a day but never after dark if I can help it..These might make excellent calendar photos for, like, July and August..

Yeah, if it’s blowing we don’t let the drifts build. And, not doing calendar any more, but yes, they would.

Lovely pictures of your lovely snow. Please continue to keep the large snowfalls there. I enjoy them much more when I look at your pictures than when I look out my window.
Hope you are right about Trump. but then, I was really sure that nobody would vote for “W” Bush after the mess he made of his first term, and look what happened there.
Hoping for the best, hoping to avoid the worst….

The American voters are a fickle bunch. They never do what I want them to do. Bastards.

As for W, wasn’t he running against John Kerry? Could have flipped a coin there, and most people probably did.

We had one of those big snowstorms right before Thanksgiving. My garage looked a bit like yours did. We didn’t get out for 2 days. We were lucky – we had a neighbor with a plow who plowed us out the second day. I’d only gotten through 1/3 of the driveway by shoveling.

Great photos! I felt the same when I read about these ‘monster’ storms. Here on the Alberta Prairies, we get an average of 51 inches of snow a year. We have fresh snow an average of 54 days a year. The only month historically with no recorded snow is August. One of the worst storms on the Canadian prairies dumped 69 inches in 12 days.
On snow days, we will sometimes shovel and or plow 3 or 4 times in a day to stay ahead. We live in the country, and we’ve gone as long as 2 days before the snow plow opened the roads. We have a 4 wheel drive Jeep, but you just don’t take it out on the road when you can’t actually see where the road ends and the ditch starts…

Beautiful photos. But after looking at them, I have to go lie down and rest. Whew! At my age, I just glare at the snow until it melts. Usually only a day or two, although right now I still have snow in the backyard that fell in mid-December.

So, you have a south-facing house. My backyard has snow all winter in areas that are in the constant shade of the house.

Actually it faces east. The lingering snow is along the north side of the east-west fence.(Hmm, does that make sense?)

Yes, that’s probably a prerequisite to admiring images like these, liking snow…and I do, rather much, so it’s easy to find these beautiful.
Do I understand correctly that you’re no longer living in the house where you made these images? How does your current location compare to this previous neighborhood in regard to snowfall?

We currently live in the same house. We’re looking to move. If we can make it happen, this year.
The forecast for today is 1-3 inches. Tomorrow and Monday 5-8 inches each day, Tuesday, about an inch. We live on the Palmer Divide which is subject to exaggerated weather events when compared to even a few miles away. That could mean we get a lot more. That’s the norm, but sometimes it means we get less (not likely).
The question is how the system comes over the mountains to our West. We’ll see.
