NaNoWriMo No. 3 – Sixth Update

Still behind in my NNWM-2K15 effort, but the good news is that I am more focused . . . wrote about 7,200 words in three days and while that’s good, I need to step it up a bit more if I’m to meet the 50K mark by the end of the month.

Anyway, this is where I am right now with my NNWM-2K15 effort. 

 

As of this morning, I’m at 22,668 words. Again, I’m posting only one chapter (Chapter 10) because there are a couple of details in the following chapters that I’m still tweaking. By tweaking I don’t mean editing; just keeping things consistent. Today I’m starting on Chapter 14, for them who like to keep track of these things.

Which brings me to posting what I have written. As in prior years, all of it will go up on the blog. But, as in prior years, all but the first two chapters are offered up in password-protected posts. 

E-mail me a request if you are interested in reading further (read the first two chapters to decide if you are interested.)

The post with Chapter 10 will go up immediately after this post goes live. As I said, it’s password protected. 

Please, don’t just ask for a password just to make me feel good. Unless you intend to read it, don’t ask. I will not feel hurt, I will not cry myself to sleep, I will not hate anyone who chooses not to read my effort. I will, however, get a little miffed if I get asked for passwords by a bunch of people and then only my usual four or five readers actually read the stuff. 

On the last post, I mentioned the Topaz Plugins. When not writing, doing chores, shoveling snow, eating, sleeping, or spending time with Melisa, I play with my new plugins.

So . . . here are a few more photos from Martha’s Vineyard as shot, with my normal processing, and after running them through the plugins.

I had posted this one before, only it was the version taken with the phone. This is the photo as shot by the Nikon D7000 and my Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.

It was a cloudy day, but this is also the output from RAW, before any processing. This next photo is the photo with my usual processing.

This next version is passing it through a couple of the Impression filters. The plugin does not allow layers, so you have to make successive passes on the photo.

There is a hint of the photo looking like a painting, but looking at the full-size version takes away that illusion; it’s just that the colors are vivid and really stand out. Look back at the original to see the comparison.

Here is a shot of one of the many lighthouses on the island, again as it comes out of the camera.

Here is the same shot Disperserified.

I had tried catching the bird in the small opening between the tree and the grass, but my timing was slightly off. 

Here is the same shot using one of Impression plugin presets and modifying it a bit.

This next version is layering a bit of the Glow plugin and changing the blending to overlay instead of normal and lowering the opacity.

This next one is adding one of the Textures Effects plugin presets.

This next shot is more of the Glow plugin. One of the presets with some tweaking and changing the blending mode and opacity.

Here is another variation using the Glow plugin.

Here is a version playing with the Glow and Texture plugins. Notice that I removed the information plaque at the right side base of the lighthouse. It had just become a bright white square and drew the eye away from looking at the overall composition. In case you are wondering, that was done in Lightroom.

Finally, here is a combination of the Impressions, Textures, and Glow plugins. I should have removed the plaque on this one as well.
