Nine days do go, and it now looks like I’ll have a tough time hitting my ten stories goal for the month.
It’s my fault, really; I can’t blame life or even other people.
Take this evening, for instance.
I happened upon this photo . . .
. . . and rather than continue writing the story I started yesterday evening (I have three lines written) I began playing with the photo.
First I cropped it . . .
Then I ran my usual processing plus a bit of a kick . . .
Then I wondered what it would look like in B&W . . .
That’s one of many I ran . . . that’s the one I kept because I wanted to combine layers. I also kept this one.
Then I brought the color version and the two B&W versions into Photoshop and played with combining them as layers using various blend modes.
Then I had the idea of practicing making a mask . . .
Then I played with the mask but was not happy with anything I did . . . until I brought this shot into the file.
My first pass at the sky-monster almost got me what I wanted . . .
The second blending option gave me what I wanted. Not that I knew ahead of time what I wanted; I just kept moving sliders around until I saw what I wanted.
What is it, you ask?
Isn’t it obvious? It’s an excuse not to write.
That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

. . . my FP ward . . . chieken shit.
I like the original when you cropped it, but the last one is certainly very … creative, yes that’s the word.

No, wait . . . they left out “creative”.

That’s no excuse; that’s an intense creative exercise. Always worthwhile. And the final picture is fascinating. Looks like the wood is on fire.

My problem is always seeing driftwood as driftwood. Your result was intriguing nonetheless.

I am in awe. And with a serious attack of envy. Wish I could play layers like that.

Sliders and buttons; not much expertise.

Yeah, just as with playing a violin all you do is push some strings down with one hand and poke a stick back and forth with the other.

Good excuse! Wow! I think these photos would be groovy and far-out even if I wasn’t on meds!
Wow! I love that last one…the way you layered it! and the shots of the blue water are spectacular and sparkly!

It is that it is a good excuse, because you are still in “creative land”, putting your skills into motion. Not in writing but in images. Maybe this is what fuels your inspiration to write afterwards.
I guarantee you that you are inspiring me to read, study more about post processing and practice it. But that doesn’t help you writing! 😉
Almost forgot to say, once again, that you impress me with your post processing mastery.

Thanks; soon I’ll start believing it myself.

P.S. I got a kick out of colonialist’s comments.
