My earlier post documented my visit to Chicago’s millennium Park and the Navy Pier.
It was an enjoyable afternoon full of color, shiny stuff, water, boats, and buildings. Did I mention color?
Well, here’s the funny part . . . lots of that stuff also looks good in B&W.
. . . strangely enough, not so much the Crown Fountain.
I mean, it’s not bad, but it doesn’t do much for me. The only fountain shot that works for me is the one late in the day . . .
On the other hand, I knew The Bean was mostly going to do well in B&W because I’d done a few previous conversions of it.
Even so, some of the shots are better than others . . .
I also thought this turned out pretty good.
Mind you, all of the photos were treated as a batch with the same post-processing B&W treatment.
I could probably go through and do better by some of the photos if I tweaked them individually. I’m doing other things, so perhaps that’s something for a future post.
A few of the water and Navy Pier shots are also OK in B&W . . .
I thought these next three are pretty good in B&W because of the details.
I’m only showing a few, but all of the photos can be seen in the SmugMug Gallery HERE. Readers can also click on the photos in this post for a larger view.
Anyway, here’s a few more of the B&W conversions I like.
I do want to show two different B&W versions of this next photo. I like them both, but they impart a different feel to the scene.
That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

You haven’t but I thought I’d give you a nudge in the right direction 😀

Whew! . . . for a moment I thought I’d have to carry something charging up that hill, so-to-speak. Good to know it’s only a nudge; I notoriously ignore nudges.

I really like the building, Ferris wheel, and carousel in B&W! It makes the shapes and angles very interesting! 🙂 Great shots, Emilio, in color and in B&W!
HUGS!!! to you and Melisa! 🙂

Thanks, diem3; we are in the process of getting snowed in so we are looking forward to a couple of quiet days at home . . . as opposed to our regular quiet days at home.

Are you snowed in yet?!

Well, yes, but self-imposed. We got maybe 6 inches with another 3-5 forecasted for overnight. They don’t plow the streets here until the main roads are clear, and we have snow in the forecast for the next five days.
We’ll likely go out tomorrow for a bit, but we plan of not being out much.

The ‘Bean’ and skyscrapers most definitely dazzle in B&W, but I much prefer Navy Pier, the boats and the lake in color. Perhaps that’s because there is still so little color out there . . .

I could probably have made that work by tweaking individual photos, but I used the same process for all of them.

Disperser … I loved that man dancing in the water fountain shot. Such pure bliss. 😉 You captured many great moments. I still prefer color photos, but these black and white photos give the images a much older feel. Beautiful!

I do like that shot but wish I’d caught him earlier in his celebration.
