We are waiting to get off the Royal Princess and begin our long way home (via Chicago) . . . 13 hours from now we will be home (I hope).
Yesterday we enjoyed a relaxing day capped by a nice sunset . . .
. . . Followed by a modest meal . . .
. . . then a banana split (which I forgot to photograph), a couple of teas, a late evening snack . . .
. . . and some more tea.
As it was our last day on the boat, I slacked off on the eating. Only had three doughnuts, bread, two mini breakfasts, and a similarly modest lunch as above. I might have had a few snacks I’ve since forgotten, but in sure they were light.
Honest, I don’t understand how I gained weight on the cruise. Oh well . . .
This morning we woke up already docked. There are supposed to be five other ships in port today, all gearing up for the holiday cruises. We saw a few, and one coming in.
Dawn was awesome, the sun a yellow ball on the horizon, but I did not have a chance to photograph it.
Look at the sunset photo above, and add about ten hours and the port outline.
I want to thank all the readers who took time to comment on the posts. I’ll be answering them all, but it might take me a few days.
Plus, you know, I should have a few more posts about this trip . . . Then again, I’m behind at least two Florida trips, one from last December, and one from February.
But, having nearly documented all of this trip, I’ll probably close it out before turning the clock back to the others.

Loved your lunch! A nice fresh roll, two kinds of potato, there seemed to be three kinds of meat, and some applesauce, maybe? Fortunately, you didn’t eat the fat that came with the meat, so you should be okay. I’m glad you had fun, which I’m sure you did. Every once in a while, it’s good for you to do exactly as you please, and the heck with moderation. But we all know that once you get home, salad, fruit and water are going to get back onto your daily menu. And you’ll enjoy that too. Thanks for sharing your trip…. hope the 15-hour trip home wasn’t too exhausting, but I’m betting we’ll hear about it.

Mashed potatoes, red roasted potatoes, some kind of seafood pasta, broiled fish, veal scalopini, minute steak, two small slices of turkey breast, a soft roll, and a bit of butter.
I went back for a bit more pasta.

As I write this, it’s 2:03 Central time and you’ll be landing at Midway in less than an hour. Hope you had a good flight and that the rest of your journey home will be pleasant. Yesterday I watched the Ft. Lauderdale webcam and saw the sailing of the Caribbean Princess and the Island Princess. That was neat as the camera zoomed in on the people. I wanted to watch the Royal Princess enter the harbor but getting up at 5:00am was not on my agenda this morning. Anyway, it was fun reading your posts and following your journey. I hope that you took back from this, besides a few pounds, many good memories. Welcome home!

It was a good trip. Learned a few things about cruising. Will have further thoughts on the trip once I recoup.

If the food shown is an example I think one of those cruises would do me good, I wouldn’t be able to eat the stuff they dish up, and I’d lose weight right left and centre! That plateful of god only knows what, there appears to be a small piece of steak (the fat has not been rendered that’s probably why it’s still on the plate), I can’t make out what the rest is exactly but it looks a complete mish mash of different meats, vegetables? and pasta. Are they kidding?
The desserts look fairly presentable, more care could have been taken with the cutting and serving of the cheesecake(?), note the bottom has not been sliced cleanly there is obviously a piece of the next slice attached. Not very good for supposedly first class fare, the different layers on the slice seem a tad uneven.
The presentation, a roll on the same plate? Really?
Perhaps you should end these photos to the cruise people and ask for a refund! 😈

I am deeply hurt! I took good care with assembling the goods on that plate.
The formal meals are served all hoity-toity style, with what you apparently like . . . presentation taking precedence over the joy of my palate.
The buffet allows people such as me, base individuals without refinement of culture (not even European culture), to dabble in culinary presentations geared toward an amazing taste treat as opposed to presenting a visual treat.
Deeply hurt, I say . . . but with a pleasantly filled belly (at the time).
Also, I now have to rethink any European or Australian trip I might have considered . . . except Italy, of course. They have good food there.

I apologize most profusely for cutting you to the quick, and to the chefs aboard the vessel for an unintentional insult to their professionalism, I should have realized that no chef worthy of his ‘Michelin Hats’ would have plated up such a dish 😛

Only the most intrepid of culinary conessuirs would even consider plating such an avant-garde masterpiece. I understand people might not be ready for it, but it hit the spot nicely for the intended audience.

Wait a second! I’ve now corrected a number of things on your comments.
That reply was made from the phone, and I know how to spell connoisseurs . . . but I use the swype feature and if it does not recognize a word, it just adds in there what it thinks it is . . . and yes, ultimately it’s still my responsibility.
