Just Stuff – Writing Tools

Introduction
I used to do whole posts showcasing photos from our visits to various antique shops. I still have a lot of unprocessed photos, but some are redundant, some are ho-hum, and some deserve a post of their own.

The latter is the basis for my decision to do a series called “Just Stuff”.

It will be a series of unrelated photos that might have, or might not have been treated with various effects and enhancements. Some are fairly straight forward. Some will take a shot at making people laugh . . . or at least smile.

Basically, they are photos that caught my eye, and I played with them to present and preserve them here. They will also be added to THIS GALLERY in SmugMug as each post is published.

The Photo In This Post
This typewriter caught my attention because it was in pretty good shape, and because of the color.

It is a tad dusty, and I would have preferred the dust be undisturbed, but apparently people like to smear dust.

You can read about the Royal Typewriter Company HERE.

A history of the typewriter can be read HERE.

I’m old enough to have used typewriters, both manual and electric. I still own our last electric one, and it was advanced . . . It had a whiteout ribbon, and you could automatically erase single or multiple lines. Fancy.

Sorry for the crappy changes in font color and justification. The app, as mentioned before, sucks for editing or composing.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

  1. Like you I learnt to type on a manual typewriter. That ‘PING’ sound still resonates with the beginning of each new line, and the stress of lining up the carbon paper…. I sound like an antique…

    1. No more ancient than many of us . . . I brought my typewriter at work one day last year . . . One of the young women working there tried it out, and said there is no way she could use one of these to do any productive work . . . because of the noise.

. . . and here I thought the noise was the only comforting thing about using a typewriter . . .

  2. As I recall typing on those old beauties, I particularly enjoyed their sound. Perhaps that is why I always get a kick out of watching Jerry Lewis’ typewriter skit from 1950. . . brings back good memories.
