Just Stuff – Audio UTube

I used to do whole posts showcasing photos from our visits to various antique shops. I still have a lot of unprocessed photos, but some are redundant, some are ho-hum, and some deserve a post of their own.

The latter is the basis for my decision to do a series called “Just Stuff”.

It will be a series of unrelated photos that might have, or might not have been treated with various effects and enhancements. Some are fairly straight forward. Some will take a shot at making people laugh . . . or at least smile.

Basically, they are photos that caught my eye, and I played with them to present and preserve them here. They will also be added to THIS GALLERY in SmugMug as each post is published.

The Photo In This Post
Keeping with my sometimes odd sense of humor, yet another play on words/picture. That piece of machinery is an early phonograph.

Phonographs would eventually evolve into the players most of us are familiar with (or have at least heard tales of) which played flat records (later known as ‘vinyls’ because of the preferred medium used to produce flat records).

These days, unless you are of the opinion the ‘flat record’ has a quality which cannot be reproduced by electronic recordings, you are not likely to be aware (or care) of phonographs or flat records . . . unless you either are, or see, a DJ basically trying to ruin one in a misguided attempt to ‘make music’ by manhandling it.

If you want to read about audiophiles and their silly arguments about ‘recording quality’, look no further than HERE.

This particular machine plays cylindrical records. You can read about them HERE, HERE, and HERE.

The machine in the photo was priced at $875 dollars.

I’m including one of the many samples of what these things sounded like, mostly because the machine in the video looks similar to the one in the picture. You can search YouTube for additional samples.

Disclaimer: the “UTube” label was added by me in an attempt at humor, lame as it may be. It does not imply either ownership of the name, or any association with the more popular and sometimes litigious YouTube™ and it’s ‘deep pockets’ parent company Google™.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.
