NaNoWriMo No. 2 – Chapters 4 & 5 pre-post

This is the pre-post announcement for the next two chapters in my NaNoWriMo novel. They, and all subsequent chapters, will be password protected.

I’ve already mailed out the password to people who requested it, and to a few people I thought might want it. I did not mail the password to all the people who asked for it last year (it’s a different password) since by the end of the previous novel I only had four readers.

Let me be clear – I don’t expect anyone to read any or all of this novel unless interested and engaged. You will not be doing me any favors by forcing yourself to read something you don’t like.

Also, NaNoWriMo is a bit like a race . . . you don’t really worry much about keeping all four wheels inside the lane markings. By that I mean that this is a first draft. I write it, I do one readthrough, I post it.

I hope readers will understand when mistakes will slip through. Hopefully it will be stuff that readers can work out on their own, but if not, leave a comment, and I will correct egregious and potentially confusing errors.

OK, enough disclaimers . . . the new chapters will go live tomorrow morning.

Here’s my progress so far:

I wrote 2,890 words this evening, for a total of 7,964 words (per Scrivener).

So far I’m liking what I’m writing, but I will be curious about the reaction to these two chapters (won’t say any more about it).

The first three chapters are HERE (chapter 1) and HERE(chapters 2 & 3).

Anyone wanting to read more, please shoot me an e-mail requesting the password, or leave a comment to that effect.

As a point of information, asking for the password does not mean I will subscribe, or even read, your blog. It just means you get the password. Perhaps I might get curious and check you out, perhaps not.

If I get the feeling you are selling something, it will be marginally more difficult (but not impossible) for you to get the password. Understand, I have 642 subscribers, and the vast majority are one-time visitors, and many of those – surprise, surprise – happen to have commercial sites, are advertising their own works, or outright selling something they believe I might need (they obviously don’t know me).

They never comment, never visit, never engage beyond subscribing. Ghosts, they be, and I don’t believe in ghosts.

One other thing.

Last year I did a precis . . . I know some people like the precis. I did it last year because I stopped writing for a few months, and then I was not writing regularly.

This puppy is going to be finished before the end of the month. I won’t have time to write a precis, and the timeframe is short enough to perhaps make its absence irrelevant. If not . . . sorry.

That’s it. This post has ended . . . except for the stuff below.

Note: if you are not reading this blog post at, know that it has been copied without permission, and likely is being used by someone with nefarious intention, like attracting you to a malware-infested website.  Could be they also torture small mammals.

Please, if you are considering bestowing me recognition beyond commenting below, refrain from doing so.  I will decline blogger-to-blogger awards.   I appreciate the intent behind it, but I prefer a comment thanking me for turning you away from a life of crime, religion, or making you a better person in some other way.  That would mean something to me.

Is the password still the same ? I thought I lost it, then when I checked out my archive, it was there, the first archived email.

  2. sandra getgood says:

tried the password in my email this morning, but for some reason it didn’t work. I might have accidentally slipped into capslock, but it;s a good password, so will try again.

  3. Sally Livingston says:

You kindly sent me the password last year which I’ve misplaced, along with most of my memory. Please send it to me again (I promise to write it down!)…this story has me hooked. Thank you.
