Resting Now – Part II

In an earlier post (HERE) I briefly mentioned Guffey, a small town we drove through when we took the long way around to get home from Florence.

The place is a bit strange . . .

Guffy 2012

. . . and sometime you need to do a double-take to not miss details . . .

. . . a horse skeleton with pink sunglasses . . .

It’s difficult to describe the place, and to do it justice I would have to do so in a dedicated post. Which I will eventually do.

Meanwhile, know you are liable to see odd things . . .

Demonic pipe?
Demonic pipe?

But some of the things you will see there are cars from yesteryear.

Guffy 2012That green beauty is a Chrysler, and judging from the split windshield and grille, I would say late 40s or very early 50s . . . but I’m not a car guy. A cursory look did not match me any photos I perused on the interweb.

I did, however, play around with some filters and effects.

Guffy 2012 Guffy 2012Eh, nothing fanciful, but at least I tried.

This next car is a Buick 8 Super. Again, I could not be bothered to do more than a very quick search, and those interested can click on the link for more information about the car.

Now, I think these colors lend themselves relatively well to some HDR manipulation and dynamic range tweaking . . .

Guffy 2012

Yeah!

Same for this Chevy truck . . .

Alaska Cruise 2012

Hmmm . . . maybe in B&W plus a few other bits thrown in . . .

Alaska Cruise 2012

No, I think the Buick looks better.

Well, not like that, sheesh!

Here’s a panorama  . . .

That looks better in the SmugMug gallery (HERE).

That car at the end is a Studebaker.Guffy 2012

Here’s a couple of shots showing the groupings . . .

And here are a few more “treatments” of the cars.

But not all the old cars were relics resting in various fields . . .

Guffy 2012

This puppy, despite the beat up look and bungee chord tie-down of the trunk, was actual transportation for someone. I was not sure, but it could have been a old body put on the chassis of a kit car. No, I did not bother finding out.

We left the place thinking we would return (we did), and on the way home we saw some impressive clouds (that will also be a separate post).

I have more photos of both the cars and the place, and they will appear when I write Guffey up.

There is a SmugMug gallery HERE with all the above offered at full resolution.

    1. Sorry to hear . . . perhaps a good whack on the side of the monitor or, and this seldom works, but may be worth a try, taking a hammer to the computer itself.

      Oh, and thanks.

  1. Dem bones are seriously strange!
Interesting car treatments. Particularly on the Chrysler, one gets the impression, it should be possible to do a ‘renovation’ – digitally, at least!

  2. I think #13 is a Studebaker, one of my all time favorite car brands. I had a friend who had 2 and wanted to be buried in one. I don’t know which he choose, though. Can I have some more, please?

    1. Did you mean #15? #13 on the blog is the side view of the Buick 8.

The Studebaker first appears on the panorama, and is identified in the shot right after.

      . . . I like their emblem.

  3. We used to go to Florence 2-3 times a year when I lived near the Springs…don’t remember Guffy, though. I’ll look forward to your more complete introduction. This was quite a taste…some eclectic folks living there….

    1. You head West on 50, then head north on 9, and then take a detour on 102 through Guffey and some fairly sparsely populated areas. 38deg 45sec North, 105deg 31sec West.
