Coronado Springs Resort

The Coronado Springs resort has been our home for the past five days. We leave tomorrow morning, and I wanted to highlight a bit of what helped make our stay a pleasant experience.

Interesting . . . this does not look as good here as it did on the phone. I wonder if I over-processed it.

Regardless, the place is nice to walk through.

This next shot is of one of the pools we did not use . . .

One does see a lot of geckos about . . .

. . . and walking around after dark (say, going to get a free refill of coffee), one is likely to have a rat (not mouse) run across one’s path. Mind you, they will not bother you if you don’t bother them.

There are flowers . . .

but my favorite shots are at dusk . . .

Where I live, Colorado, I seldom get shots of still water. For one, right now the temperature is hovering around -8 deg (F), so even if we did have any standing water (we don’t), it would be frozen solid.

For another . . . no, that’s it; just that one thing.

I took a bunch of photos with my regular camera, but these, from my Samsung Note II, processed with Snapseed and Pixlr Express, give a pretty good idea of the look of the place.

Why, I even tried a few panorama shots using both the camera app that comes with the phone, and Camera Awesome (from SmugMug – they finally have an Android version. Their iPhone version is quite popular, and rightly so).

These photos are linked to the full-size photos . . . and I do mean full-size. They will open up to the native resolution photos.

I be hoping I linked the correct files to the correct thumbnail. If not, hardened excrement! . . . er . . . I mean, that’s unfortunate.

They look great as thumbnails, but less so when you look at them at their full resolution . . . I hope my regular panoramas, using photos from my Nikon, will look much better.

Hmm . . . those look suspiciously alike . . .

20131202_172637_3

Oh, I remember now . . . same photo, slightly different processing.

I was playing with the HDR levels  . . . and the frames.

OK, one more, and that’s it. This is primarily documentation for me, and most people don’t have the attention span. Beside, it will all be repeated with better photos when I process my Nikon shots.

I should mention the rooms are a tad dated, but they are clean, the beds are comfortable, and contrary to most motels we stay at (I’m looking at you Choice Hotels), they have a crap-load of power plugs. I can charge both phones, the iTouch, my shaver, have my laptop plugged in, recharge my two Kindles, and still have open plugs available for other stuff.

Not only that, the free WiFi signal is stronger than what I get at home, and available throughout the resort without having to do gymnastics for a better signal (again, I’m looking at you, Choice Hotels).

The only complaint, and I can’t fault the resort for this since like every other hotel and motel they are required to rent to everyone without first ensuring the people are not inconsiderate bastards who should be put down so as to better humanity’s gene pool.

Yes, like every other hotel and motel, people who stay at these places think their voices do not carry. Not only that, they think late at night is a perfect time to loudly call out at each other right outside other people’s doors, or to let their unplanned offspring run up and down the hallways yelling loudly, or to converse using a volume level guaranteed to let everyone within a quarter mile radius know what their plans are for tomorrow.

Yes, as I write this, all those things are happening . . . I really wish it were easier to travel with my guns. Or even my machetes. I just don’t think the plastic forks I got from the cafeteria are going to do the job.

Anyway, we’re leaving tomorrow, heading home to sub-freezing temperatures, snow-covered roads, and the familiar surroundings of our home . . . that last part I like. I do hope our car will start without the the aid of a jump, and our pipes have not frozen and burst.

  1. Great shots. I’m looking forward to the others. The wonderful reflections in water really struck me too the one and only time we’ve been to Florida (Naples).

Oh this, this, this. I like people most of the time, but when I’m back to the place I want to sleep in, AND it is that quiet time of the evening, this just frustrates me to no end. (Much like people who carry on conversations – even in with low voices – in movie theaters. I seriously want to slap them silly.)

    1. It’s a basic issue of consideration for others. We go out of our way not to negatively impact other people’s lives, and this particular thing seems to us like a no-brainer. You are in a hotel, late in the evening or even night, and you are in front of lines of rooms you know are occupied by people trying to sleep.

I’m way past the “slap them silly” level in responses I would consider appropriate . . . were it not for the fact the laws frowns on hacking people to bits, even if they are inconsiderate jerks, there would be far less of them around.

Yes, I kid, but with a wistful glint in my eye.

    1. Orlando, Florida.

We are staying at one of the Disney World Resorts, which includes passes to their parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and a few more we did not plan to see, and followed through with that plan).

This is the first time we stayed within the park. Usually we rent a condo nearby, and hit other attractions in the area.

  2. You know, I think I just may have enjoyed this resort more by looking at its beautiful features while sitting in front of the PC screen than you did by being there. No unpleasant distractions to make my visit to this post less enjoyable.
