Free Wallpaper – Hummingbird Feeding

A master of steady flight feeding on the wing

Hummingbirds are my favorite creatures.  This one was feeding on some flowers on my front lawn.  I happened to be sitting out with my D100 and Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6, and I quickly snapped off 7-8 pictures, hoping at least one would turn out clear and sharp.  Surprisingly, all of them did.

This is one of the series.  As usual, click on the picture to be taken to the Wallpaper Gallery where you can download one of three sizes.  Or, you can just peruse what is over there.  Or, you can just go on with your life.

One thing that surprised me . . . I have lots and lots of hummingbird pictures, but I don’t have a hummingbird picture gallery.   I think I had a couple in Bubbleshare before it folded, and I have one in Picasa, but nothing in SmugMug.  That will be remedied soon.

Great Pic! I Love hummingbirds too and we have many here where I Live. I don’t think I could ever get a pic like that. Bravo

Even with the equipment I have (not super-great, not the latest, but still good), it’s mostly luck; a combination of being in the right place and having good light. Even so, a series of sharp photographs of a moving subject is rare; you should see the number of hawk pictures I take which turn out blurred.

This photo is one of your best of hummingbirds feeding on flowers. It’s really spectacular!
